Since 8th grade is a busy year, below is a list of tentative dates of which students and parents should be aware. This timeline’s purpose is to give you an overview of the year. Please use this guide as a resource for scheduling your family calendar. As specific activities near, we will send more detailed information home with your student and/or post it on the junior high website (www.stritaschooljuniorhigh.com). After that, any additional questions or concerns can be forwarded to Mr. Richards (mrichards@stritaschool.com) or Mrs. Wilson (bwilson@stritaschool.com)

September

  • Check area Catholic high schools websites regarding admissions testing. Dates and times vary and are determined by the high schools.
  • Schedule shadow days for your child with the high school(s) of interest admissions office(s) (see October dates below)

October

TBD Emerald Ridge service opportunity (11:20 am -12:30 pm)

13, 19, 20 High School Shadow Days: parents call high school admissions officers to schedule, students are expected to be at St. Rita on Oct. 19, 20 if they choose not to shadow area high schools (Oct. 13 St. Rita is closed due to a teacher professional day). Documentation sheet indicating student’s selections will be forthcoming from St. Rita staff at the end of September.


November

1 All Saints Day All School Mass (8:45 am): Big/Little celebration of the saints

1, 2 Parent Teacher Conferences – Sign up with HOMEROOM teacher ONLY.

  • Brainstorm and develop rough drafts of Catholic high school application essays in ELA during the month

January

TBD Emerald Ridge service opportunity (11:20 am – 12:30 pm)

8 – 12 Catholic high school applications distributed: Applications will be distributed by teachers to students and returned to teachers by students. St. Rita School is responsible for verifying and mailing completed applications, along with transcripts, to the first choice high school. St Rita staff is more than willing to guide and assist students and parents through the process. Parents are responsible for ensuring application is neat, complete, signed, and returned on date requested by staff. Parents and student are responsible for the final content of the application.

27 Big/Little Planting Service Project: 8th grade parent volunteers needed


May

9 Big/Little Zoo Trip: During school day (approximate cost $5)

15 – 18 Various practices for end of the year activities (limit absences/appts.)

16 Cedar Point Trip: Students on Precious Cargo Bus (approximate cost $60 plus food); Each student group will need a parent chaperone; Chaperones provide their own transportation; Arrive at school at 8:00 am; Return to school and parent pickup scheduled for 9:30 pm

17 Late start for 8th grade only: 10:00 am

18 Baccalaureate Mass and 8th Grade Honors Assembly (8:45 am): Parents are strongly encouraged to attend; Luncheon for students afterwards; This is the last school day for 8th grade; 2:45 pm dismissal.

21 Graduation (7:00 pm with 6:30 pm student arrival time): 8th grade students only do not attend school this day
